About This Tour
DFP Travels runs a 10-hour small-group day trip from Venice Piazzale Roma to the Dolomites in a Mercedes V-Class Executive for up to 8 people. A long-tail boat ride is listed in the itinerary, though one reviewer said it did not take place, so confirm it on the booking page.

How the Listings Compare
The table sets these figures side by side, and anything not stated is marked that way.
| Item | In the price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mercedes V-Class Executive transport | Yes | Up to 8 people, hotel, airport or Piazzale Roma pickup stated |
| English-speaking driver and guide | Yes | Tour offered in English and Italian |

| Long-tail boat ride at Lake Braies | Listed, unconfirmed | One reviewer said it did not happen, confirm when booking |

| Tips | No | Bring cash |
Included
Transport by Mercedes V-Class Executive, an English-speaking driver and guide, water and an Italian-style breakfast. Pickup at your hotel, the airport or Piazzale Roma is stated.
Paid on Top
Lunch is not included. At Lake Misurina you can eat at a typical alpine lodge or a local restaurant at your own expense. No lunch price is published, so bring cash or card for that meal and for tips.
No chairlift, boat fee, toll or snowmobile charge is listed as included or mandatory. One reviewer mentioned a scenic chairlift at Misurina on their own account. The Col de Varda chairlift near Misurina charged $18.92 (€17) adult return in summer 2026 and ran 18 June to 20 September, but the tour does not list it, so treat any ride as your own optional cost and check on the day.
The Boat Ride Contradiction
The itinerary lists a long-tail boat ride at Lake Braies, yet one reviewer said the ride did not take place. If the boat matters to you, confirm it on the booking page before you pay. Boat prices at the lake are not published.
Book It If, Skip It If
Book it if
- you want the lowest-priced shared Braies day at $100 per person with breakfast and water included
- you prefer a small group of up to 8 with hotel, airport or Piazzale Roma pickup offered
- you want Lake Braies reached on a dedicated van pass that drives right by the water
Skip it if
- 45 minutes at Lake Braies is too short and you want a Tre Cime viewpoint too, book the Lake Braies and Tre Cime Minivan Trip
- you want your own pace and 4 h 45 min at the stops, book the Exclusive Private Dolomites and Braies Trip
- you need printed departure or return times before paying, since none are published for this tour
Pros and Cons
What this tour does well, and where it falls short against the alternatives.
What we genuinely like
- Lowest price of the shared Braies days, from $100 per person
- Small group of up to 8 in a Mercedes V-Class, with hotel, airport or Piazzale Roma pickup stated
- Water and an Italian-style breakfast included, the only listing here with breakfast
- Dedicated pass lets the van drive right by Lake Braies
- Five stops in 10 hours, about 4 h 35 min on the ground, with a 2-hour lunch window at Misurina
- Free cancellation up to 24 hours before, and reserve now and pay later
The honest downsides
- 45 minutes at Lake Braies is short, and one traveller found it so
- The listed long-tail boat ride is unconfirmed, since one reviewer said it did not take place
- Lunch is not included and the included breakfast sits inside a 30-minute stop
- No departure or return times are printed, so you book blind on the schedule
- No season or winter schedule is stated, unlike tours with a defined winter version
- Rating of 4.6 from 173 reviews trails the 4.8 of similar Braies minivan trips
Who it's NOT for: If you want more time at Lake Braies or a Three Peaks stop, book the Lake Braies and Tre Cime Minivan Trip instead, and if you want your own pace, the same operator's Exclusive Private Dolomites and Braies Trip is the private version.
Before You Go
Practical points for this tour.
Season and Timing
No season, winter schedule changes or departure or return clock time are stated. Check availability for starting times when you book. Bring a warm layer even in summer, since the day runs outdoors in the mountains.
Money
The tour is priced in dollars, from $100 per person. Carry euro cash for tips and for small lodges. For reference, the European Central Bank rate was 1 EUR = 1.1130 USD.
Lake Misurina lunch, any chairlift ride and tips are your own costs.
Meeting Point and Bags
Meet at Piazzale Roma, 30135 Venezia VE, Italia, or use the stated hotel or airport pickup, with no pickup window given. No bag rule, difficulty level or time in the mountains is stated.
Who Can Join
No minimum age and no wheelchair accessibility rule is stated. The tour is offered in English and Italian. There are up to 8 travellers per van, so expect a small group rather than a private car.

Is the Dolomites and Lake Braies Day Worth It?
A fair question when the day runs 10 hours for five stops.
The Short Answer
Yes for first-timers who want a sampler of the Dolomites in one day and accept that no stop is long. The price of $100 per person in a van of up to 8 is low for the ground covered. Travel writers who weigh the question agree a day trip works if you keep it to short walks, viewpoints and a town stroll, because a long hike does not fit in one day. They also note the day is long and staying longer is better if you can.
The trade-off is time on the ground. Lake Braies gets 45 minutes, which one traveller found short. If the lake is your main goal, the Lake Braies and Tre Cime Minivan Trip adds a Tre Cime viewpoint stop in 9 hours, and the private Exclusive Private Dolomites and Braies Trip lists 4 h 45 min at the stops.
Who Should Book Two Days Instead
Hikers, photographers chasing morning light at the lake, and anyone who dislikes being clocked at each stop. A day trip is logistically possible but long, and an overnight in the Dolomites gives you evenings and early mornings at the lakes without the long round drive from Venice. For a first look, this tour and the comparable Dolomites Day Trip with Cortina and 2 Lakes both work as samplers.

The Route and Its Stops
The van drives the scenic Great Dolomites Road through the mountain passes. The timed stops run in this order: Pieve di Cadore with breakfast and a walk for 30 minutes, Lake Auronzo for a 20-minute photo stop, Lake Braies for 45 minutes with a walk and the listed long-tail boat ride, then 2 hours at Lake Misurina with lunch at your own expense and views of the Three Peaks of Lavaredo, and finally 1 hour in Cortina d'Ampezzo with a visit, guided walk and shopping. Drive times between stops are not published.
End Point and Return
The tour ends back in Venice. No return time is stated, and the drop-off point is not named beyond the Venice start area.
Why a Van Reaches Lake Braies and a Public Bus Often Cannot
Lake Braies sits in a valley with a road that closes to most cars in summer, which is the core logistical problem this tour solves.
The Traffic Rule
From 1 July to 15 September 2026, between 9:00 and 16:00, access to the Pragser Tal by car is only allowed by public transport, on foot, by bicycle, or with an online reservation or a valid transit permit. Arriving before 9:00 does not guarantee parking. The combined ticket costs $48.97 (€44) and bundles a full-day transit permit, a guaranteed parking spot and a $24.49 (€22) voucher for restaurants and shops, advance booking only.
Prags tourist office says the regulation will apply again in summer 2027, with details published in spring.
What the Tour Van Does
The tour description states the van carries a dedicated pass that accesses the area right by the lake, avoiding long walks. How the pass works under the 2026 rule is not detailed. For your own group, see the Exclusive Private Dolomites and Braies Trip.
What Happens If You Go by Bus Instead
During the regulation, buses 439 and 442 need advance online booking and prepayment, and once a bus is fully booked you can no longer reach the lake by bus. Mobilcards and guest cards are not valid on these services. This is why travellers without a car often find Lake Braies hard to reach, and why a seat on a tour van is often the simpler route.

The Stops on This Day Trip
Five named places, from a Cadore town to three lakes and Cortina. The official rules that touch each stop are noted where they apply.
Pieve Di Cadore, 30 Minutes
A photo stop, visit and walk in the Cadore town, and where the included Italian-style breakfast is taken. One reviewer would rather have had a lunch stop here. If you want a slower Cadore day, the Dolomites Day Trip with Cortina and 2 Lakes also calls here.
Lake Auronzo, 20 Minutes
A photo stop with scenic views on the way, at the lake below the Tre Cime road. The road up to Rifugio Auronzo under the Three Peaks charges $44.52 (€40) per car and needs an online reservation with your plate, This tour does not use that road.
Lake Braies (Pragser Wildsee), 45 Minutes
The headline stop, reached by van on a dedicated pass that drives right by the water. In the regulated window, 1 July to 15 September from 9:00 to 16:00, private cars need a reservation or permit, and the combined ticket is $48.97 (€44). The listed long-tail boat ride here is unconfirmed, as one reviewer said it did not happen.
For more time at the lake plus a Tre Cime viewpoint, see the Lake Braies and Tre Cime Minivan Trip.
Lake Misurina, 2 Hours
The longest stop, with a break, photo stop, walk and optional lunch at a typical alpine lodge or local restaurant at your own expense. The Three Peaks of Lavaredo can be admired from here. The Dolomiti Bus Tre Cime shuttle runs daily from Misurina Genzianella to Rifugio Auronzo from 30 May for $11.13 (€10) per person, cash not accepted, if you ever come independently.
The Col de Varda chairlift at Misurina ran 18 June to 20 September in 2026 at $18.92 (€17) adult return, not part of this tour.
Cortina D'Ampezzo, 1 Hour
A visit, guided tour, shopping and walk in the town known as the Queen of the Dolomites, under the Tofane and Monte Cristallo. The Dolomites have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009, inscribed on 26 June. Cortina's bus terminal is at the Ice Stadium, and buses link the town with Venice if you ever travel here on your own.

Doing It Yourself: Bus, Train or a Private Driver
If the tour format does not suit, here is what the official sources say about reaching the Dolomites and Lake Braies on your own.
The Nearest Stations to Cortina
The nearest railway stations to Cortina d'Ampezzo are Calalzo di Cadore, 35 km away and connected by Dolomiti Bus, and Dobbiaco, 31 km away and connected by SAD. The town's bus terminal is at the Ice Stadium. So a train leg ends far from the mountains and needs a bus connection.
The Bus Reaches Cortina, Not Braies
Cortina Express runs Venice to Cortina daily, with tickets from $13.91 (€12.50) in either direction. On the timetable, buses leave Mestre station at 11.00, 14.00 and 17.00 and the airport at 11.20, 14.20 and 17.20, reaching Cortina 2 h 30 min later from Mestre and 2 h 10 min later from the airport. Dolomiti Bus leaves Piazzale Roma at 6.20 and 18.20.
That gets you to Cortina, but not to Lake Braies. In summer the lake is served by the regulated buses 439 and 442 with prepaid booking, or by car with the $48.97 (€44) combined ticket.
When a Private Driver Makes Sense
For a family or group of up to 7 or 8, a private day lets you set the schedule. The Exclusive Private Dolomites and Braies Trip costs $1,118 per group up to 7 for 10 hours and lists 4 h 45 min at the stops, and the Private Dolomites Tour with Lake Braies is another private option from Piazzale Roma. Per head it costs more than this $100 shared van, but you set the clock at each lake.
