About This Tour

Avventure Bellissime runs this full-day trip from Venice into the Dolomites by Mercedes Black minivan for up to 8 passengers. An English-speaking driver-guide gives general information about the areas you pass through. The summer route covers Lake Misurina, the foothill viewpoints of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, an optional easy self-guided nature walk and free time in Cortina d'Ampezzo. Lunch in a traditional trattoria is at your own expense.

From the end of May to October, weather permitting, the Tre Cime viewpoints are on the route. When conditions block them, you get more time in Cortina instead. In winter the day features Cortina, Lake Braies and San Candido rather than Tre Cime and Misurina. Stop times are not published, so ask the operator before booking if time on the ground matters to you.

The Winter and Spring Route: Cortina, Braies and San Candido

For roughly half the year this tour runs a different day entirely, and that decides whether it is the right booking.

When the Route Changes

From mid-November until the Tre Cime road reopens, generally in the third week of May, the tour drops Lake Misurina and the Tre Cime viewpoints. Instead the day features Cortina d'Ampezzo, Lake Braies and San Candido, described by the operator as one of the most beautiful South Tyrolean villages in the Dolomites. It is the same booking, with a different set of stops.

If you want that winter route as a private day just for your group, the Private Dolomites Winter Day Trip runs the same idea from Tronchetto with Cortina, Tre Cime country, Lake Antorno and Lake Braies.

Braies and San Candido Out of Season

The Lake Braies traffic rule applies only 1 July to 15 September from 9:00 to 16:00. From 16 September there are no restrictions at all, so a van visit in the colder months faces no permit system or reservation requirement.

The operator describes San Candido as one of the most beautiful South Tyrolean villages in the Dolomites. What you do there, how long you get and the lunch arrangements for the winter route are not stated, so ask at booking.

At $210.96 per person this is a transport-and-guide product, not an all-inclusive day. The table below separates what Avventure Bellissime includes from what you pay on top.

Included and Not Included

Included are the Mercedes Black 8 pax minivan, the English-speaking driver-guide and the optional easy self-guided nature walk. Everything else costs extra or is simply absent. Lunch in a traditional trattoria is at your own expense, and the exclusions list adds gratuities and hotel pickup and drop-off.

Book It If, Skip It If

Book it if

  • you want a minivan capped at 8 passengers departing Tronchetto at 8.00 am, with infant seats available on request
  • you travel between end of May and October and want Lake Misurina plus Tre Cime foothill viewpoints and an optional easy nature walk
  • you want the winter route to Cortina, Lake Braies and San Candido in a shared small group

Skip it if

  • $210.96 per person is too much, book the Dolomites Day Trip with Cortina and 2 Lakes instead for $107 with printed stop times
  • you need stop durations and a return time published before booking, since this listing states neither
  • you have a spinal injury or poor cardiovascular health, which the listing does not recommend

Pros and Cons

The most-reviewed listing is not automatically the best value for every traveler.

What we genuinely like

  • Small group capped at 8 in a Mercedes minivan, with a driver-guide giving commentary
  • Year-round operation with a defined winter route to Cortina, Lake Braies and San Candido
  • Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure
  • A 4.6 rating from 1,567 reviews, the deepest review base on the comparison
  • Infant seats available on request and no age limit

The honest downsides

  • At $210.96 per person it costs more than every other shared tour in the comparison, against $107 for the cheapest
  • No stop times and no return time are published, so you cannot judge time on the ground before booking
  • Lunch, gratuities and hotel pickup are all extra, and the meeting point at Tronchetto is outside central Venice
  • Minimum numbers apply and the tour can be cancelled after confirmation, with an alternative or refund offered
  • The Tre Cime stop is a foothill viewpoint, not the toll road up to Rifugio Auronzo

Who it's NOT for: If you want printed stop times, two lakes and less than half the price, book the Dolomites Day Trip with Cortina and 2 Lakes instead.

Before You Go

Practical points for this tour, before you commit $210.96.

Season and Weather

The tour runs year round and operates in all weather, so dress for mountain conditions whatever the Venice forecast says. End of May to October brings the Tre Cime foothills and Lake Misurina when conditions allow. In winter, expect the Cortina, Braies and San Candido route with short daylight hours.

Money

Prices on this page are in dollars converted at the European Central Bank rate of 1 EUR = 1.1130 USD. Carry euros in cash for lunch at the trattoria, gratuities and anything you buy in Cortina, since no meals are included. If you are a day visitor to Venice on certain dates, the city's $5.57 (€5) access fee can apply, with exemptions listed at cda.ve.it.

Meeting Point, Bags and Who Can Come

There is no hotel pickup. Come by people mover, take your left at the exit and follow signs to the water bus line 2 landing at Tronchetto, in front of Re Mida Cafe. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring weatherproof layers.

Ages run adult 0 to 99, children must be accompanied by an adult, all passengers pay the same rate, and infant seats for children under 36 kg or 150 cm must be requested at booking. The tour suits all fitness levels but is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health. Check your email up to the day before departure, since the operator can cancel for low numbers with an alternative or full refund.

How Long the Drive From Venice Takes

The van covers a fair distance before the first stop, so the road time shapes the whole day.

Venice to the Mountains

Cortina d'Ampezzo sits about 162 km from Marco Polo airport by road. The official bus gives a yardstick for the same route: on the timetable the airport run to Cortina takes 2 h 10 min and the Mestre run 2 h 30 min, with tickets from $13.91 (€12.50) each way.

No arrival times at Lake Misurina or Cortina are published, and no official source gives a car drive time. If you would rather skip the long ride out and back, an overnight in Cortina is worth a look.

How the Tour Runs

The day is a simple out-and-back from Tronchetto with three or four stops, depending on the season. The meeting time and departure are published, but no stop times and no return time.

The Stated Plan

You meet the driver at 7.45 am outside the vaporetto line 2 landing in front of Re Mida Cafe at Tronchetto, and the van leaves at 8.00 am sharp. An emergency number is available 7 am to 9 am and 5.30 pm to 8 pm if you are delayed.

In summer the drive heads into the mountains for Lake Misurina, where you see the Tre Cime di Lavaredo from various viewpoints at the foothills and can join the optional easy mountain walk. A lunch stop at a traditional trattoria follows, at your own expense, then free time in Cortina d'Ampezzo of a length that is not stated. The tour then drives back to Venice. No return time is printed. Because no stop durations are published, the rest of the 10 hours cannot be split between stops and driving.

The Stops on This Day Trip

Summer and winter share the van and the frame but not the places. Here is what each stop offers and the official rules that touch it.

Lake Misurina and the Tre Cime Foothills

Lake Misurina is the summer scenery stop, under the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, the Three Peaks. The tour views them from various viewpoints at the foothills, seasonal from end of May to October and subject to weather. Because the van stops at viewpoints rather than driving the toll road to Rifugio Auronzo, the 2026 access rules apply to self-drivers, not to you: cars pay $44.52 (€40) and need an online reservation with a plate added by 23:59 the day before, and the Dolomiti Bus Tre Cime shuttle from Misurina costs $11.13 (€10) per person for a day ticket, cash not accepted on board.

The Col de Varda chairlift above Misurina runs 18 June to 20 September, 9:00 to 16:45, at $18.92 (€17) adult return, but this listing includes no chairlift ride. If you want more mountain time and a proper viewpoint stop, the Lake Braies and Tre Cime Minivan Trip builds its day around them.

Cortina D'Ampezzo

Cortina is the free-time town on both the summer and winter routes. You get time to explore on your own, of a length that is not stated. Cortina hosted the winter Olympics and the town's bus terminal is at the Ice Stadium, which is where the public Cortina Express buses from Venice arrive, from $13.91 (€12.50) each way if you ever do it without a tour.

When weather closes the Tre Cime foothills in summer, the operator says you spend more time in Cortina instead. That is the tour's built-in bad-weather plan.

Lake Braies and San Candido in Winter

From about mid-November the mountain stops become Lake Braies, the Pragser Wildsee, and the South Tyrolean village of San Candido. No stop times are published for either. If Braies with proper time is your priority, the Dolomites and Braies Lake Full-Day Tour prints 4 h 35 min at its stops for $100 per person.

When to Go and When to Skip It

The route itself changes with the seasons, so the best month depends on which version you want to book.

Best Months for the Summer Route

Travel guides name mid-June to mid-September as the general best window, with July and August preferred for more predictable weather. Snow can linger into June. Summer also has the most lifts and buses running if you add anything on your own.

When to Think Twice

The Tre Cime road and its viewpoints normally open late May to late October, weather permitting, so outside that stretch you are booking the winter route with Braies and San Candido instead, which some travelers do not expect. Winter offers little daylight for sightseeing, and chairlifts and boats are largely closed outside June to September, for example the Col de Varda lift runs only 18 June to 20 September. Bad summer weather can also cut the Tre Cime stop, leaving more time in Cortina.

Book this listing for the peaks only between roughly the end of May and October.
